Phonographic scripts have three main scripts: alphabet scripts, Abjad scripts, and Abugidas scripts. Phonographic scripts have a common property of phonogram that one letter for each phoneme or sound in the languages. Each letter has no meaning until it combines with other letter or letters, for example, in English, letter B and E has no meaning, but “bee” = b+e+e and it has meaning for something. Although derived and evolved from Egyptian hieroglyphs which had meanings, alphabetic letters lost their meanings. Therefore, an alphabetic letter by itself only represents a sound.
